Case: A 48-year-old white male carpenter arrived at the University Hospital emergency department with a foreign body in his left eye. He reported that he had been using a nail gun and had felt a sudden sharp pain in his left eye, several hours before being admitted to the hospital. When he removed his safety glasses, he noticed that a nail had lodged under his left upper eyelid. The patient left the nail in place and went directly to the emergency department. He reported that he had had no past medical problems, no previous ocular diseases or eye trauma, and was not drinking alcohol or using illicit drugs at the time of injury. |
