WHAT IS GLAUCOMA?

Glaucoma is a potentially blinding disease that affects an estimated 2 million Americans. It is referred to as the "sneak thief of sight" because most people who have the disease do not notice any symptoms until they experience substantial loss of vision. The Glaucoma Division at the New Jersey Medical School is dedicated to preventing blindness from glaucoma. Our Glaucoma Diagnostic Laboratory uses the latest technologies for the early diagnosis and monitoring of glaucoma, including advanced imaging technology to study the structure of the optic nerve and the latest visual function tests to monitor the progression of the disease. We are involved in laboratory and clinical studies to improve the results of medical and surgical therapy of glaucoma. In particular, we offer the latest medical or surgical treatments for patients with complicated glaucoma or for those who have had unsuccessful surgery.
