About: | Founded in 1990, and currently Division 51 of the American Psychological Association, the Society for the Psychological Study of Men and Masculinity [SPSMM] consists of men and women dedicated to promoting the critical study of how gender shapes and constricts men's lives and committed to the enhancement of men's capacity to experience their full human potential.
The Society believes traditional gender roles are restrictive in nature and have led to negative consequences, harmful activities, and unhealthy interactions for many individuals in society. It endevours to erode the constrictive definitions of masculinity which have inhibited men's development, reduced men's capacity to form meaningful relationships, and contributed to the oppression of others. SPSMM supports the empowerment of all persons such that gender role definitions are not constrained and limited. About: | Founded in 1968, the Society of Pediatric Psychology [SPP] provides a forum for scientists and professionals interested in the health care of children, adolescents and their families. The field of pediatric psychology is defined by the concerns of psychologists and allied professionals who work in interdisciplinary setting such as children's hospitals, developmental clinics, pediatric or medical group practices, as well as traditional child-clinical or academic arenas.
The SPP focuses on the rapidly expanding role of behavioral medicine and health psychology in the care of children, adolescents and their families. As Section 5 of Division 12 (Clinical Psychology) of the American Psychological Association [APA], the Society provides an annual forum for research and practice presentations at the annual APA convention. Annual awards for student research and distinguished professional contributions are part of the Society's program.
