17-th Rendezvous with Madness Film Festival
(You can click above for the meeting's Web pages.) November 5, 2009 Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sponsor: Centre for Addiction and Mental Health [CAMH], (Centre de toxicomanie et de santé mentale) "Clara" (Director: Helma Sanders-Brahms). Rendezvous with Madness is the world’s first and longest running film festival dedicated to showcasing cinematic representations of mental health, addiction and recovery. Each screening is followed by a panel discussion with representatives from the filmmaking community, mental health professionals, and people recovering from mental illness and/or addiction. "Clara" is a grand tale of passion, betrayal and redemption of Clara Schumann, wife of renouned composer Robert Schumann. A brilliant musician and composer in her own right, Clara is content to stay in the background and support the delicate genius of her husband Robert Schumann; that is until the younger and equally brilliant Johannes Brahms enters their lives as his protégé. Cocky and charismatic, Brahms is everything her husband is not and as Robert’s paranoia threatens to destroy their once idyllic lives, Clara finds herself drawn even closer to her young friend. Torn apart by loyalty and desire, Clara channels her suppressed emotions into music. As their passion for her drives Robert and Johannes to greater heights, it is Clara who soars. The film weaves together music by all three composers and it’s clear that Clara Schumann was more than just a muse, she was a masterpiece. Note: The above is all the information that we have at this resource. To find more about this event please communicate with the sponsor directly.
