Child Attachment Interview Training
(Kindly consult the meeting's Web pages.)

November 10-13, 2009

London, Greater London, United Kingdom

Sponsor: Anna Freud Centre [AFC]

This course focuses on the administration and coding of child attachment interviews [CAI] and aims at preparing participants for CAI accreditation.

The CAI was conceived in an attempt to find a middle ground between indirect, projective assessments of representations such as the Separation Anxiety Test and various Doll Play procedures and the simple application of existing adult instruments such as the Adult Attachment Interview [AAI]. Unlike the AAI, the CAI focuses upon current memories (rather than retrospective accounts) and assesses children’s perceptions of their attachment figures’ current availability and sensitive responsiveness through eliciting internal representations of attachment figures. The CAI contains 19 questions asking children to recall and describe their attachment experiences with, and perception of their attachment figures, in particular, at times of hurt, emotional upset, illness, separation and loss. The interview contains developmentally appropriate scaffolding and relies upon non-verbal as well as verbal communication in the analysis of narratives. The coding is conducted from videotaped interviews and the coding and classification system yields attachment strategies analogous to those identified in infancy and adulthood.

Trainer: Yael Shmueli-Goetz.

Mentalization-Based Integrative Outreach
(You can refer to the meeting's Web pages.)

December 10-11, 2009

London, Greater London, United Kingdom

Event sponsor: Anna Freud Centre [AFC]

The approach is designed for complex, hard-to-reach and high risk adolescents in psychiatric crisis, for whom conventional clinic-based services are ineffective. It is one of a developing stable of Mentalization-based approaches to treatment, although in this case the emphasis is on fostering and sustaining mentalizing in the outreach worker, who deploys multiple skills and techniques drawn from different evidence-based treatment modalities.

The course aims to provide an introduction to Integrative Multimodal Practice [IMP], which is an innovative manualized approach to outreach work with hard-to-reach multi-problem adolescents. IMP uses an attachment framework and proposes a practitioner specifically trained to work with multiple treatment modalities, bridging many of the ‘dis-integrative’ forces that these patients and their families face, supported by a robust supervisory framework. Theory and basic tools from this approach are introduced.

As a fundamentally team-based approach, the full IMP training is only available for whole teams; this introductory training provides a good overview of the approach, as well as a range of tools and techniques that will enrich individual practitioners’ repertoire.

(Kindly consult the meeting's Web pages.)

February 22-24, 2010

London, Greater London, United Kingdom

Sponsored by: Anna Freud Centre [AFC]

Co-sponsored by theTavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust.

Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy [DIT] is a simple short term (16 sessions) individual therapy protocol for mood disorder. The protocol was designed on the basis of the work of the Expert Reference Group on clinical competencies which worked on identifying key components drawn from manualized psychoanalytic/dynamic therapies. It is an easy to acquire, semi-structured, treatment protocol that is currently being investigated in a pilot study and appears to be quite effective with individuals in primary care with symptoms of anxiety and depression.

The workshop provides a basic introduction sufficient to enable participants to begin practicing this manualized treatment with supervision.

Detail:

Child Attachment Interview Training
(You can consult the meeting's Web pages.)

March 16-19, 2010

London, Greater London, United Kingdom

Sponsored by: Anna Freud Centre [AFC]

About:

The Freud Museum was the home of Sigmund Freud and his family when they escaped Nazi annexation of Austria in 1938. It contains Freud's remarkable collection of antiquities: Egyptian; Greek; Roman and Oriental. Almost two thousand items fill cabinets and are ranged on every surface. There are rows of ancient figures on the desk where Freud wrote until the early hours of the morning. The walls are lined with shelves containing Freud's large library of reference books.

The house is also filled with memories of his daughter, Anna,

The museum is now being developed as a cultural and research center for the professional community.
