The mission of the Hawai'i AIDS Education and Training Center and AIDS Education Project is to provide health and human service workers with the knowledge and skills necessary to care for people living with HIV disease. By listening to the expressed needs of HIV infected clients and their case managers, mental health workers, dental, nursing, and medical care providers, a variety of educational programs are offered throughout the year. These trainings include: one-hour didactic presentations on specific topics such as HIV treatment updates; full-day seminars for HIV case managers; and intensive HIV nursing skill-building programs.

The Center operates under the Department of Psychiatry, John A Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawai'i.

The mission of the Adult Mental Health Division [AMHD] of the Hawaii State Department of Health is to promote, provide, coordinate, and administer a comprehensive mental health system for individuals eighteen years of age and older who have a severe and persistent mental illness. AMHD provides services to approximately 5,500 adults with severe and persistent mental illness.

Services are provided in State owned and operated facilities (Community Mental Health Centers located statewide and Hawaii State Hospital on Oahu) and through State developed contracts with private providers.
