The IASSW promotes the development of social work education throughout the world, develops standards to enhance quality of social work education, encourages international exchange, provides forums for sharing social work research and scholarship, and promotes human rights and social development through policy and advocacy activities. IASSW holds consultative status with the United Nations [UN] and participates as a Non-Governmental Organization [NGO] in UN activities in Geneva, Vienna and New York. Through its work at the UN and with other international organizations, IASSW represents social work education at the international level.

The official publication of IASSID is Journal of Policy and Practice in Intellectual Disabilities [JPPID].

Association aims are:

• Advance scholarly knowledge of forced migration;
• Advance the understanding of appropriate and effective practice concerning forced migration;
• Facilitate networking and better communication among those involved with refugee and other forced migrant issues;
• Disseminate scholarly and practical information concerning forced migration.

The aims and objectives of IASP are:

• To foster and encourage research of pain mechanisms and pain syndromes and to help improve the management of patients with acute and chronic pain by bringing together basic scientists, physicians, and other health professionals of various disciplines and backgrounds who have interest in pain research and management
• To promote education and training in the field of pain
• To promote and facilitate the dissemination of new information in the field of pain, including sponsorship of a journal, PAIN
• To promote and sponsor a triennial World Congress of the Association and such other meetings as may be useful or desirable for the advancement of the purposes of IASP
• To encourage formation of national associations for the study and treatment of pain
• To encourage the adoption of a uniform classification, nomenclature, and definition regarding pain and pain syndromes
• To encourage the development of a national and international data bank and to encourage the development of a uniform records system with respect to information relating to pain mechanisms, syndromes, and management
• To inform the general public of results and implications of current research in the area
• To advise international, national, and regional agencies of standards relating to the use of drugs, appliances, and other procedures in the therapy of pain
• To engage in such other activities as may be incidental to or in furtherance of the aforementioned purposes

The aims of the IASP are to:

• Provide a common platform for all representatives of different professions and volunteers who are engaged in the field of Suicide Prevention and Crisis Intervention
• Allow interchange of acquired experience in this area in various countries, especially through exchange of literature
• Promote the establishment of national organisations for suicide prevention
• Facilitate wider dissemination of the fundamentals of effective suicide prevention, not only to professional groups and volunteers, but also to the general public
• Arrange for specialised training of selected persons in the area of suicide prevention, in selected training centres, where desired
• Carry out programs of research, especially those which can be pursued through international joint co-operation

The official publication of IASP is Crisis: The Journal of Crisis Intervention and Sucide Prevention.

IATSO:

• is committed to advocating for humane, dignified, compassionate, ethical and effective treatment of sex offenders
• is committed to furthering the knowledge about the nature of sexual offenders and sexual offenses and the improvement of treatment methods
• supports the development and improvement of effective sexual offender treatment
• is committed to scientifically evaluating therapeutic methods and to periodically revising and disseminating the IATSO standards of care for the treatment of sexual offenders
• is committed to scientifically evaluating studies of treatment effectiveness of sexual offenders
• believes that sexual offender treatment and research is enhanced through international communication and exchange of ideas, research and treatment methods
• believes that sex offender treatment should be widely promoted, available and accessible
• believes that sex offender treatment will result in the reduction of the incidence of sex offenses
• believes that punishment alone for sexual crimes is an inadequate deterrent for sexual crimes
• believes that sex offender recidivism is reduced best by the treatment of the sex offender
• believes that sexual offender treatment is a basic human right
• believes that freedom from sexual aggression and sexual abuse is a basic human right

Objectives:

• Through international collaboration and networks, to promote research into:
  • The social, economic, ethical, legal, cultural, psychological and biological factors, which affect Women's Mental Health
  • Women's roles in marriage, family and society, and the effects on mental health
  • The causes, effects and elimination of domestic violence and abuse of women
  • The causes, treatment and prevention of mental diseases or disorders that are specific, more prevalent, more severe or have different risk factors or outcomes in women
  • Gender-specific effects of treatment.
  • Basic sciences pertinent to gender difference and female biology
• Together with Societies and Sections, to act as international advocates for Women's Mental Health, for:
  • The elimination of conditions that are harmful to Women's Physical and Mental Health
  • Improved education and autonomy for women.
  • Better medical education and public information about Women's Mental Health
  • Increasing the number, status, education and resources of Women's Mental Health providers
  • The appropriate representation of women in research, education and organizations concerned with Women's Mental Health
  • Control by women of their personal fertility
