The New York Statewide Resource Center for Geriatric Education [NYSRCGE] was founded in 1981 by the Legislature to stimulate and improve geriatric medical education programs throughout the state. In 1987 the Resource Center became a permanent entity within the State University of New York and expanded its focus to include medicine, nursing and the allied health professions.

The center, through its two divisions, has amassed a body of information and models of geriatric education and curricula, news of legislative and state agency activities and initiatives affecting geriatrics and gerontology, fellowships, and other educational opportunities.

The New York University Institute for Psychoanalytic Education [IPE] (until July 2011 the NYU Psychoanalytic Institute [NYUPI]) was founded as the Downstate Psychoanalytic Institute in 1949 and moved to NYU Medical Center in 1979. It is an independently chartered organization, affiliated with NYU.

The theoretical foundations of the IPE emphasize the study of classical psychoanalysis as a developing science that has evolved with ongoing revisions in theory and technique.

IPE is a member of the American Psychoanalytic Association.
