The Society for Clinical Trials [SCT], created in 1978, is an international professional organization dedicated to the development and dissemination of knowledge about the design, conduct and analysis of government and industry-sponsored clinical trials and related health care research methodologies.

The Society’s membership consists of professionals from academia, government and private industry, who are behavioral scientists, bioethicists, biostatisticians, clinical coordinators, computer scientists, data managers, epidemiologists, nurses, pharmacologists and physicians.

Objectives:

  • Provide a forum for discussion of statistical, data management, research computing, regulatory, philosophical, ethical, and procedural and management issues arising from the design, organization, operation, analysis and reporting of clinical trials.
  • Promote methodologic research and the application of sound scientific methods in intervention trials.
  • Facilitate communication among the various disciplines involved in the conduct of clinical trials.
  • Educate and inform health care researchers about the design, operation and analysis of clinical trials.
  • Promote better understanding by the general public of the importance of randomized clinical trials in evaluating interventions for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease.

It is the belief of the Society for Cognitive Rehabilitation [SCR] that many different professional disciplines may suitably provide cognitive rehabilitation services, but that standards for training and experience should be established that pertain to all professionals involved. Formed in 1982, the Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics [SDBP] is a national, interdisciplinary organization of 575 members. Its goal is to improve the health care of infants, children, and adolescents by promoting research and teaching in developmental and behavioral pediatrics. The society is working on such issues as abtaining subspecialty certification in developmental-behavioral pediatrics, formulating curriculum guidelines for residents and fellows, nd exploring the factors affecting the practice of developmental-behavioral pediatrics in a managed care environment.
