NEURO-OPHTHALMOLOGY
&
 
WHAT WORKUP SHOULD BE UNDERTAKEN?

OPHTHALMOLOGIC WORKUP: (Complete initial and subsequent follow-up examinations)

  • Observe for late unusual neovascular complications
  • Consider visual fields
  • Ophthalmodynamometry
  • Fluorescein angiography

SYSTEMIC WORKUP:

  • Medical consultation
  • Hematologic assessment as directed by findings and history
  • ESR, CRP, CBC with differential
  • Evaluation of heart (transthoracic and possibly transesophageal echocardiogram)
  • Evaluation of extracranial and possibly intracranial carotids/aorta
  • Evaluation for diabetes mellitus
  • Hypertension
  • Premature causes of atherosclerosis
